Built in the 14th Century, the Rose & Crown is one of Colchester’s most iconic buildings. At one time featuring a working prison, today the hotel accommodates guests across 39 rooms. Split between the original building and a purpose-built modern wing. Licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies with a restaurant specialising in flavoursome, fresh cuisine. With several characteristic conference rooms The Rose & Crown Colchester is the ideal base for an escape to Britain’s oldest recorded town.

Great place for a meal
Sunday lunch has never been as good as it gets here!! I very reluctantly share this information in fear of Sundays selling out! Easily the best Roast option in Colchester!! Staff is lovely and the beautiful Tudor pub feels ancient and welcomes you.. I go there every Sunday if I can!! Ps. The best sticky toffee pudding on the planet!
Home away from home
Stayed here for 2 nights (not the first time we have stayed). Wonderful hotel, full of character, very clean, the staff are excellent, very helpful and friendly, we were particularly helped by Sue and Stefan
Excellent stay at the Rose and Crown this weekend. A warm greeting from reception awaited us. Our room was very good, clean and tidy and in keeping with the rest of the hotel. There was ample complementary tea, coffee, milk etc in the room. We ate dinner at the hotel which was equally enjoyable.
Elegant and Charming Hotel
Very warm welcome to the hotel by Liz the Receptionist. Room 205 charming and a delight. Best bed ever. Room spotlessly clean and spacious. Everything you could possibly want and more. Breakfast was hot and plentiful and served by a very smiley Megan. A quirky and wonderful hotel which is well worth a visit.
